A spicy action thriller, Tom Yum Goong 2 has martial arts and crime as its central themes. This movie reflects the Thai culture and society with a chilling prognosis of the future. The movie is about a former agent, Kham (Kamala), who must defend her son from an unknown enemy at any cost. In order to protect her son from this unknown foe, she takes the help of a local underworld gangster named Pai, an orphaned teenage runaway under his care. Through many twists and turns in this action-packed thriller, it becomes difficult to figure out whether your loyalties lie with their own family or with your new allies you have found along the way. Kham (Jirayut Wattana) is a former secret agent who now serves as a security guard. He lives alone with his son, Toey, in a rundown apartment complex outside Bangkok. A former colleague of Kham's named Pop, now Kham's friend and manager, comes to visit with a job offer for Kham: he wants Kham to escort "Wild Horse" Pong, the leader of the dangerous gangster-like Red Shoes gang from Pattaya back to Bangkok. In exchange for this service, Pop offers Kham US$100,000 as well as the opportunity to meet his father who he has never met before. Pop also offers to accompany Kham and Pong on their trip, as well as secure a new apartment for Kham and his son. The journey begins with several fun-filled escapades involving Pop who is a former party animal. During the trek through the jungle, a violent rainstorm arises and everyone runs for shelter in a cave. The next day they wake up, but Pop has disappeared. Pai runs errands for most of her neighbors including cooking food for them. In return she gets free board and lodging, but most importantly they help out when she needs it the most. She is also extremely blunt with people unless about money or food. Her main goal is to eventually open a noodle shop. She eventually falls for Kham and they start a relationship. She has a very tough outer shell which slowly starts to break when Kham digs deeper into her past. Pai is the only person who knows that Kham is going to be someone important in the future and she starts to worry about his safety. The mystery of Pop's disappearance grows as they find evidence that someone or something may be hunting them down. A local shaman they meet during their trek gives them a talisman to ward off evil spirits, but doesn't really help them at all with their current situation. Kham also learns something about his father that wasn't told to him by Pop. Kham is thrown into a situation he can't believe or understand, but he must get to the bottom of things and protect his son at any cost.The film grossed $1,642,388 in Thailand.
